THE Wyvern hosts a treat for lovers of the Big Band sound next week.
Chris Dean’s Syd Lawrence Orchestra promises to transport audiences back to the golden era of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Billy May and Tommy Dorsey.
The band was founded by trumpeter and arranger Syd Lawrence, who spent his Second World War service arranging music for the RAF bands whose work was a welcome morale booster for fighting troops.
Syd died in 1998 but his band and the music it champions lives on under current leader Chris Dean.
The Wyvern show is on Wednesday, February 1, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £19 from 01793 524481 and via www.wyverntheatre.org.uk.
