SWINDON’s Summer Breeze Festival, now in its sixth year, has gone from strength to strength, attracting bigger names such as this year’s headliner KT Tunstall (pictured) .

But the summer festival never forgets its roots, with organisers still inviting Swindon bands to play.

This year’s line-up includes Ode and the Bebops, Gaz Brookfield and Breeze (after whom the festival is named), alongside groups from further afield such at Vintage Trouble, from Los Angeles, who are playing on Sunday.

Summer Breeze takes place at Warren Farm, Liddington, from tomorrow until Sunday, with 50 acts entertaining across the main stage, bar stage and lizard stage. Bands include The Destroyers, Willie and the Bandits, Ed Tudor from the 1970s chart band Ten Pole Tudor, Atari Pilot and The Costellos.

For the little ones there is a new free Big Fun art and craft tent where the children can watch puppet shows, make silly hats, juggling balls, ribbon skirts and didgeridoos or learn circus acts and take part in pizza workshops or junk building events.

There is a vintage tent which hosts tea parties, fashion shows, make-up and hair styling workshops and quirky stalls selling vintage clothing and jewellery. There will also be ‘not-so-risque’ burlesque lessons followed by an adults-only ‘bit-more-risque’ burlesque show late at night.

The festival has a strict 2,000-only entry, a far cry from the intimate 150-strong crowd who enjoyed the first Breeze Festival in 2006.

Each year the festival has designated charities, and this year it is the Prospect Hospice and Water Aid.

Gates open at 6pm on Friday, noon on Saturday and 11am on Sunday, with camping available for Friday and Saturday night. Tickets are from £15 to £40 with children under 10 getting in free. For more details visit www.summerbreezefest.co.uk /tickets.html – Flicky Harrison
