Steps, pop sensation of the 1990s, are back on stage this summer, having reunited under the glare of TV cameras in a documentary based around their split.

Last year, a four-part series on Sky Living rekindled the spark and the pop group decided to reform on a permanent basis, kicking off with an arena tour and release of a CD called The Ultimate Collection.

Two more TV shows were planned, Steps The Reunion and now Steps Back On The Road, which will be partly filmed at this Sunday’s gig at Westonbirt Arboretum in Tetbury.

Singer Faye Tozer said: “We are back, all singing and all dancing, and looking forward to the beautiful scenery in the arboretum.”

The self-confessed fan of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me is no stranger to reality TV shows herself, even appearing on Celebrity Four Weddings when she got married.

“That was the weirdest thing,” she said.

“We had our wedding ready to go when the TV company approached us. They were not intrusive on the day. It was all video grabs.

Singer Faye Tozer, said:”We wanted to uphold the legacy of Steps and support the documentary.’’ The self-confessed fan of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, is no stranger to reality TV shows even appearing on Celebrity Four Weddings when she got married.

“That was the weirdest thing. We had our wedding ready to go when the TV company approached us. They were not intrusive on the day, it was all video grabs and celebs as guests,’’ she said.

After Steps broke up in 2001 Faye followed her childhood dream and went in to musical theatre. She trod the boards in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me On A Sunday, Love Shack, Me and My Girl and Over The Rainbow - The Eva Cassidy Story.

“It is my favourite show, it is rare to have a female lead in a musical. There are 23 songs but they are all soft and healthy vocals rather than shouty and nasty. Over The Rainbow made me a better singer and the musical director helped my voice grow hugely.’’ said Faye.

Steps were a total phenomena notching up chart hits including One For Sorrow, Heartbeat/Tragedy, Love’s Got A Hold Of My Heart, Stomp, After The Love Has Gone and Summer of Love. Pete Waterman reportedly called them ‘Abba on speed’ but Faye believes their success was down to being a guilty pleasure.

“We were pop personified, children friendly and a guilty pleasure, allowing people to let their hair down,’’ she said. “Now we are back all singing and all dancing and looking forward to the beautiful scenery in the arboretum.’’ But she admitted that the band had to brush up their dance steps after 10 years apart but were soon putting their new choreographer right. “We had to learn the routines again and do a few in front of the mirrors. We checked our old videos so we knew we were right,’’ she said.

Tickets to see Steps at Westonbirt Arboretum on Sunday July 22 are £36 subject to booking fee. For more details call 03000 680400.
