Adam Buxton has the YouTube bug

Adam Buxton knows exactly what it's like to get on the wrong side of internet "trolls" - people who deliberately post nasty comments online to provoke others.

"I once replied to a comment by saying, 'Didn't your mother ever tell you that was rude?'," the comedian and presenter recalled.

"And instead of being chastened and immediately responding, 'Yes I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that', the guy just went crazy and had this long diatribe of, 'You think you're amazing don't you? Well you're nothing', and he kept on for the next few days.

"It was really quite terrifying - and the same guy set up a whole blog about what an idiot I am."

However, it's thanks to outrageous comments online that Adam is back on TV with his hilarious show Bug, which began life as a live stage show some five years ago.

The comedian shows audiences music videos he finds on YouTube and reads out the accompanying viewers' comments underneath, which range from the politically incorrect to the downright hilarious.

"If you spend any amount of time online, there's so much misunderstanding and miscommunication," said 43-year-old Adam, who's best known for being one half of the comedy duo Adam & Joe, along with Joe Cornish.

Bug started out with Buxton showing his favourite music videos, but it morphed into something else when he started reading out the comments under them.

"It would make me chuckle and I'd make a note of it and read it out to the audience and then gradually I started demonstrating with a screengrab, because people thought I was making them up."

For each episode of the TV show, which can be seen on Sky Atlantic on Mondays, Adam has also joined forces with some top directors to make his own spoof videos to comedy songs he's penned himself, including one called Sushi, which he describes as "a sort of Britney Spears song about how much I love sushi".
