BLACK Country comedy character Doreen rubs shoulders with some famous names including rock legend Robert Plant and footy star Steve Bull in her big screen debut which gets its premiere this weekend.

Film-maker and playwright David Tristram has been working on a film outing for the internet sensation that is Doreen for more than a year after successfully devising a stage show and pilot TV episodes centred around the fictional 'lazy cow' character who became an overnight hit on YouTube when she was seen bemoaning her life on benefits.

Such has been the interest in the character, played by Walsall actress Gill Jordan, that David went all out to create his very own Doreen The Movie - and now the film is ready to hit cinema screens.

The 110-minute flick will premiere at Wolverhampton's Light House Theatre this Saturday (October 17) and there'll be a series of screenings at venues around the Midlands including an outing at Netherton Arts Centre on Saturday November 28.

Tickets have been selling like hot cakes and even big name stars themselves have been keen to join in with the Doreen mania that has gripped Black Country comedy fans.

Legendary Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant is among the famous names who were keen to make cameo appearances in the film. The rock legend plays a workman who offers to tarmac a driveway.

While footballing legend Steve Bull also puts in an appearance - as does TV presenter Nick Owen from Midlands Today.

Doreen creator David Tristram, aged 58, who grew up in Quarry Bank, said: "I appreciate them for being good sports - it's obviously brought a higher profile to the piece. They all said they enjoyed the experience; hopefully they'll be coming along to have a look at it."

He said the reaction to the Doreen The Movie trailer has "been phenomenal", adding: "It was shared over 150,000 times on Facebook, that was amazing."

The screening at Netherton Arts Centre, Northfield Road, Netherton, starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £10 to £12 can be bought online at http://lazycowdoreen.weebly.com/
