Feminist author Fay Weldon and radio presenter Peter White are coming to Corsham this week, as part of a programme examining the relationship between disability and the arts.

The Pound Arts Centre is hosting SenseAbility from June 10-14, a series of free events featuring artists and professionals.

Ms Weldon, who is professor of creative writing at Bath Spa University, will be talking to neuropsychologist Dr Alison Lee on Tuesday at 7.30pm about her experience of ageing and its impact on her career.

Mr White, who is blind and hosts You And Yours and In Touch on BBC Radio 4, will discuss disability in the media and his radio career next Friday.

Both talks will be followed by question and answer sessions to allow the audience to take part.

The centre’s resident artist Penney Ellis and documentary filmmaker Tanvir Bush will host a sensory photography workshop on Tuesday aimed at the blind and visually impaired.

Marketing co-ordinator Charity Colborne said: “We want to encourage anyone to come along, whether they have a disability or visual impairment or not.

“We’ve also got a short film competition, all based around inclusion and exclusion. We’re hoping lots of young filmmakers will take part and have their chance to have their film screened here at The Pound alongside two Pixar shorts.”

The two Pixar films are being shown with a twist: watch as you might if you were partially sighted, wearing ‘simul-specs’ and listening to the audio description soundtrack.

The programme runs from Monday-Saturday at the centre on Pound Pill, ahead of the Corsham Summer Festival from June 19-22. All tickets are free: book through the box office on 01249 701628 or online at www.pound arts.org.uk, and advise of any access requirements when booking.
