The programme of summer concerts at St John’s Church, Chirton, gets under way with The Larkin Quartet on Saturday.

The group are a young, dynamic string quartet whose performances include playing for the King of Thailand’s birthday in Bangkok and at Buckingham Palace for the Duke of Edinburgh’s 90th birthday. Members appear regularly on TV backing artists such as Kanye West, Jessie J, Cheryl Cole and Susan Boyle.

They are joined by renowned tenor and member of Only Men Aloud, Ben Smith. Ben has featured on the BBC2 series Young Welsh Tenors, which documented the discovery of his voice and is a TV regular, including an appearance the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

They will be playing music ranging from Bach and Mozart to Rogers and Hammerstein and Les Miserables.

The concert is at 6pm and advance tickets are £15 or £17.50 on the door and include a glass of wine or soft drink.

The next concerts are on September 13 featuring Maggie Faultless and Music For Awhile and on October 11 featuring The Gemini Duo.
