The Wyvern Theatre is excited to be bringing the big, fat Broadway hit Hairspray to the theatre for its 21st Summer Youth Project.

This year, the theatre is especially looking for talented young black performers to bring the production to life. Auditions will be held on April 19 for the show which takes to the stage at the Wyvern from August 20-23.

Hairspray tells the story of the fight for integration in American society in the 1960s, with its star Tracy Turnblad heading the fight to have black and white dancers integrated on the same show, something never before done, and all without denting her ‘do.

Participants for the Summer Youth Project must be aged nine-21 by the time rehearsals begin on August 9. Application forms are available at www.swindontheatres.co.uk or from the Wyvern’s ticket office.

“New participants are always welcome, so if you love singing, dancing and acting then we’d love to hear from you – whatever your background,” said director Derek Aldridge.
