Hatty Aspell was splendid in the title role of Wootton Bassett Light Opera Society’s pantomime, Sinbad the Sailor, which attracted large, appreciative audiences last week to the Memorial Hall. This entertaining show featured Sinbad’s quest to rescue and wed the shipwrecked Princess, who was played charmingly by Louise Burois.

Colourful sets, splendid costumes, a curious camel and the pantomime Dame Sadie Sinbad, portrayed with panache by Stuart Dark, won a rapturous response from children.

Tammy Hollands gave a confident performance as Mihrage, Sinbad's brother, and there was fun galore from comic due Phoah and Apht (Margaret Oakley and Ross Bathurst). A rumbling volcano, the fearsome roc bird, threatening appearances of Rahgbag the Ruthless (Andy Baker) and his henchman, plus a chase involving a ghostly apparition, all fuelled excitement. The show was enhanced by delightful dance sequences, a well-drilled chorus and lively musical numbers with appropriate new lyrics.
