The Wyvern Theatre is bringing the big, fat Broadway hit Hairspray to the stage for its 21st Summer Youth Project.

This year, the theatre is especially looking for talented young black performers to bring the production to life. Auditions will be held on April 19 for the show which takes to the stage at the Wyvern from August 20-23.

Hairspray tells the story of the fight for integration in the US in the 1960s. Its star Tracy Turnblad heads the fight to have black and white dancers integrated on the same show, something never before done, and all without denting her ’do.

Participants must be aged between nine and 21 by the time rehearsals begin on August 9.

Application forms are available at www.swindontheatres.co.uk or from the Wyvern’s ticket office.
