INTERNATIONALLY recognised sculptor Michael Pennie will be exhibiting his first major exhibition for ten years and has chosen Corsham to do it.

The Pound, Corsham Town Hall and Bath Spa University's Corsham Court Campus, will all showcase his recent work in the exhibition called Sculpture for Furniture, until July 11.

Professor Pennie’s long relationship with Corsham began when he arrived in 1962 to take up a teaching post at the then Bath Academy of Art, where he taught Fine Art at what became Bath Spa University, for more than 50 years.

Accompanying the sculptures will be a reading room. Here visitors can browse folders of drawings made in Corsham and book; Michael Pennie Sculpture: Making and Teaching. He has recorded an audio version of the Corsham chapters for release on the exhibition launch day.

In addition to the main exhibition at the arts centre, works will be on display on Thursdays at BSU Corsham Court and Corsham Town Hall. Visitors are invited to view outdoor works in the University Sculpture Garden as well sculpture and drawings in the lecture room at the Riding School. The Town Hall is displaying a series of prints titled Made While the Glue Was Drying and drawings.

The Pound arts centre is open from 10am-9pm Monday to Friday and from 10am-4pm on Saturdays. Entry to the exhibition is free.
