A brand new production of Talking Heads starring Stephanie Cole, Siobhan Redmond and Karl Theobald opens at the Theatre Royal Bath later this month, giving a wonderful chance to see three of Alan Bennett's famous monologues in one evening.
Talking Heads was first performed on TV in 1988, when they won instant praise. Bennett’s original hugely-acclaimed monologues, at once darkly comic, poignant and uplifting, are now widely regarded as modern classics; this production features A Cream Cracker Under the Settee, A Lady of Letters and A Chip in the Sugar.
The plays appear from Wednesday, July 22 to Saturday, August 8 as part of the Theatre Royal's Summer Season.
Stephanie Cole, who appeared in that original TV production, this time takes the role which won the late Thora Hird three BAFTA nominations, A Cream Cracker Under the Settee, playing feisty pensioner Doris, who delights in finding what she sees as evidence of her home help's incompetence after a fall.
Siobhan Redmond appears as the sharp-tongued Lady of Letters, while Karl Theobald tackles the role Bennett himself portrayed in 1088, as stay-at-home son Graham, who struggles to cope with his mother's new romance.
