On Sunday 16 August the church of St Mary the Virgin, Orchardleigh, will celebrate its

Patronal festival with a Festal Choral Evensong at 6pm, when the collection taken at the service will help

support the work of HelpMusiciansUK www.helpmusicians.org.uk

Help Musicians UK is here for musicians throughout their careers

That’s why we’re here and we’ve been here for 94 years. Since 1921, we’ve helped thousands of

musicians. As well as providing advice and guidance, we give financial and emotional support. For

many, we are a lifeline.

We play a vital role supporting working musicians who are dealing with an illness, injury or accident.

We give financial grants to pay for medical treatment, specialist therapies and living costs.

We aim to get musicians back to work as soon as possible but sometimes a long-term illness or

disability can make this impossible. Such life-changing circumstances can be hard to accept and deal

with. We’re here to provide one-on-one help and support.

The service includes music by Charles Wood and Antonin Dvorak and concludes with 'extended

voluntaries' of organ music by John Alcock, William Walton, Louis Vierne and Edward Elgar, performed by the church's director of music David King.

The Church of St Mary dates back to the 14th century and sits on a moated island next to the

lake on the Orchardleigh estate, between Trowbridge and Frome. The location means it has no electricity, and all services are illuminated by candlelight and the organ is pumped by hand.
