THE magical moment when England won the Rugby World Cup in 2003 is enshrined in a new professional theatre production that will be coming to Devizes in October.

Live Wire Theatre brings its new comedy, Hands Up for Jonny Wilkinson’s Right Boot by Dougie Blaxland, to the Wharf Theatre on Tuesday October 6 as part of a national tour.

The nation held its breath on November 22, 2003 as Australia held England to 17-17 in the cup final with just 26 seconds left on the clock.

Star player Wilkinson put himself “in the pocket” in time to receive a pass which he calmly slotted between the posts to secure the win and the championship.

Director Shane Morgan said: “And 12 years on, as we anticipate the dramas of the impending Rugby World Cup 2015, Live Wire Theatre are set to re-enact the history and drama of Jonny Wilkinson’s historic moment together with many other celebrated rugby memories in our innovative and fast-moving production.”

The cast includes Giles Coram, recently seen as Harold in An Ideal Husband at the Chichester Festival; Hannah Douglas who played Bagheera in a national tour of The Jungle Book; George Williams and Moira Hunt.

Tickets are on sale at Devizes Books on (01380) 725944.
