Preview: Brilliant Young Musicians, St Peter's church, Marlborough

THE first recital in 2016 in the Brilliant Young Musicians in St Peter’s Church, Marlborough, series, organised by the Marlborough Brandt Group, takes place on Sunday at 7.30 pm.

Pianist Alison Rhind and cellist Chris Graves will play a programme including Brahms Sonata in E Minor for Piano and Cello, Op 38m the Schumann Fantasiestuck for Cello and Piano and the Beethoven Sonata in D Major.

Chris Graves has already had a very distinguished career having studied at the Royal College of Music. As a soloist he performed in the BBC Proms Plus Festival, broadcast on Radio 3.

As a chamber musician with the Castalian String Quartet he has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and Kings Place. Chris Graves is the recipient of many awards including the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Musicians Benevolent Fund.

Alison Rhind is recognised as one of the leading collaborative pianists specialising in the repertoire for piano and strings. Her ability to accompany was recognised and nurtured at an early age whilst still at Chetham’s School of Music and she became increasingly in demand throughout her time at Oxford University where she read Music at Wadham College.

In 1994, she moved to the Yehudi Menuhin School where she worked for 12 years. She toured Israel and Germany with the students and was invited to accompany at the prestigious Kronberg Akademie after her recitals there with the school.

During this period, she coached many young instrumentalists particularly the violinists Alina Ibragimova and Nicola Benedetti with whom she toured the USA and Japan.

The Royal College of Music in 2009 created a post for her as coach for the String Department which she now combines with freelance recital work.

Tickets at £10 (£8 for members of MBG or St Peter’s Trust) are available from the White Horse Bookshop or Sound Knowledge in Marlborough or online at www.mbg.org/events.
