During the week that the controversial movie Confessions of a Shopaholic opens, actress Sara Crowe admits that she too is a shopaholic.

“Shopping! Bring it on,” she said. “I love fashion. Clothes are the best,” said the actress, best recognised as the girl in the Philadelphia advertisement for cream cheese.

But it was in the film Four Weddings And A Funeral with Hugh Grant that Sara had the ultimate gown. She was the first bride, Laura.

“Working with Hugh Grant was amazing. It was like going to a wedding all summer,” she said.

As far as good looking leading men go, Sara is doing pretty well because she also starred alongside Michael French in the Sunday night comedy Born and Bred.

“I think it should be in my contract that they should be good looking,” she laughed. “Born and Bred is a little bit of nostalgia.”

The actress is currently on tour with Life X 3 by Yasmina Reza who also wrote the award-winning West End play, Art.

“I play a Stepford Wife character with something hidden under,” she said. “It is fun to do.”

The comedy takes a satirical look at personal relationships, flagging up the dysfunctional side of life.

I asked Sara if she minded continually being called the Philadelphia girl?

She laughed and said: “Not at all. It is a positive thing, a campaign.”

The Ayrshire-born actress also appeared in the teen drama Skins, which she said was a lark.

“I had a small part as a beauty teacher and the pupils were all images of me - blonde hair and fake tans.”

Sara declares that she is not at all superstitious but don’t mention ‘the Scottish play’ and never put new shoes on the table in her presence.

She says that it has always really been acting as a career for her, although she did like the idea of being a cowgirl.

“But I am squeamish about cows,” she said.

She started her career as one half of the comedy duo The Flamin’ Hamsters, with Ann Bryson, has appeared in a number of West End shows and starred in TV’s Haggard, Sometime Never, Alas Smith and Jones, The Harry Enfield Show, The Green Green Grass and Scarlett, the TV sequel to Gone With The Wind.

Sarah keeps fit by walking her collie cross labrador Ada, and she enjoys listening to country music.

Life X 3 , is at the Watermill Theatre, Bagnor, Newbury, until February 28. Tickets are £12.50 to £22 on 01869 337940.
