Lyrical blend

Finely balanced playing with telling accenting showed how well saxophone and piano can blend.

Yet, impressive as Marcinowicz was, it was Swain’s lyrical piano playing that caught the ear just as much. They have a happy balance and a well-tuned ear for each other.

Syrinx was written by Claude Debussy as an individual work for solo flute and has been delicately re-worked in this format. It was originally in free time and Marcinowicz seemed to revel in the dreamy atmospherics of the piper Pan wandering through the woods.

Leonardo’s dream, commissioned by the soloist from Giles Swayne, was interestingly based on a theme by Leonardo da Vinci. A challenging work which had much to offer.
