Prospect’s work is at the art of Camilla visit

ART will be the focal point when Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, pays a visit to Swindon today.

The Duchess will spend some of this afternoon meeting patients taking part in the art therapy programme at the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

She will also visit the Swindon Art Collection, in Old Town, where she will look at the town’s esteemed collection of British 20th century art, thought to be one of the best outside of London.

The Prospect Hospice, founded in 1980 and at its current home since 1995, provides care and support for people living with progressive and life-threatening conditions in the Swindon area.

At any one time, it can care for up to 450 patients, some of whom take part in the Prospect art therapy programme.

The scheme involves day hospice patients, staff and volunteers working together to create a range of mosaics to be placed in the hospice’s garden.

Angela Jordan, the chief executive of Prospect Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Duchess of Cornwall to Prospect Hospice and to share with her our work, both here at the hospice and across our community.

“Most of all, we are delighted that she will have the opportunity to meet some of the patients who are touched by our work.

“We will do all we can to ensure that her visit is both informative and meaningful.

“For our patients, staff and volunteers, we hope it will be a day to remember.”

The Swindon Art Collection, based at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, in Bath Road, was established by local benefactor HJP Bomford.

It contains works from many major British artists of the 20th century, including Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore, LS Lowry and Paul Nash.
