Roll up roll up... for a week of variety
FLYING Russians, kin of Jerry Lee Lewis, alternative comedy and Broadway showtunes – the Wyvern Theatre boasts them all over the coming days.
The flying Russians, not to mention plenty of other Russians doing other extraordinary things, come courtesy of the Moscow State Circus, which will be in Swindon on Monday and Tuesday, February 6 and 7.
Acts include Yana Alieva, who swings balletically from a huge chandelier far above the stage, and the acrobats of The Whirlwind Ribsovs Troupe.
The Moscow State Circus will give shows at 8pm on each night of its Swindon visit, plus a 5pm Tuesday matinee, and tickets cost £17.
This Saturday, February 4, the theatre hosts Rockin’ On Heaven’s Door, a musical celebration of the golden era of rock’n’roll. It includes classics made famous by stars such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. Now in its 15th year, the show currently features Jerry Lee Lewis’s sister, Linda Gail Lewis, and her daughter, Anne Marie Dolan.
The performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £21.
Lovers of a different kind of music will be catered for on Wednesday, February 8, when Back To Broadway comes to town. Based around a story of a young girl’s dreams of stardom, the show includes favourite songs from West End and Broadway musicals such Les Miserables, Grease and Chicago.
The cast is packed with people who have performed in productions across the world. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets cost £20.50.
For comedy at the Wyvern, fans need wait only until tomorrow, when Richard Herring is set to deliver a show called What is Love, Anyway? Those who remember a 1980s pop star called Howard Jones may also remember that this question was the title of one of his hits. Richard Herring promises to finally deliver an answer. Tickets cost £16.
