MATCH of the day in the Monahans Swindon Midweek League came in Division Three, where Haydon Wick and Sevenfields were involved in a hard-hittting and dramatic game.

Haydon Wick's in-form batsmen, Mark Wilson (87not) and Joe Jenkins (60), who was unluckily run out, set a formidable total of 177-4.

In reply, Sevenfields opener Tristan Hawkes promptly smashed the Wick bowlers to all parts until James Lovegrove's wily spin put them back in it by taking three wickets.

Sevenfields needed 24 off the last over, which proved too much. Hawkes needed to hit a six off the last ball to get his century, which he duly dispatched over mid-wicket, but his side ended six runs short on 172-3.

Intel, with an unblemished record, top the division. Intel made 129 with 33 from Tom Collister and 31 from Rory Trevest. In reply Wootton Bassett made 109.

In Division One, Lydiard Millicent's miserable season continued as they rue the loss of their 2005 leading players Aftab and Waquar.

They took to the field with a significantly young team that was no match for the experienced Nationwide players. Only Rico Richards with an unbeaten 61 dealt with the tight bowling of David Close (3-16) and Raj Samant (4-16) as they were dismissed for 94.

In form Nick Clarke raced to 45 before being trapped lbw trying a reverse sweep to Arowsmith and with Mark Vincent weighing in with 26, Nationwide headed for the top of the table position as they cruised to 95-3.

Purton visited Swindon Mortgages, and the Flay brothers, Kevin with 65, and Mark with 58 not out, made sure they had a decent total to defend as they amassed 157-5.

Purton were all out for 135 as Roger Thwaites and Jimmy Strong took three wickets a piece.

Southwest Fasteners are similarly finding the going tough as they were bowled out for 74, the Nalgo batsmen having little difficulty in running down 75-4.

In Division Two, United Churches set the pace as they made 156-4, Dave Hutt with 45 not out being their main contributor.

The total was more than enough to secure victory as Nomads were restricted to 114-7 in reply, Sherratt hitting 44 as Van Zyl took 3-28.

John Easter with 38 scored half of Wroughton Wranglers total of 76- 3. Winterbourne B must have fancied their chances in passing their total, but they left it late, requiring six off the last over.

Unfortunately they could only manage five so the match ended in a tie.

Ajay with 54 and Magnus Painter's 46 not out were the main highlights of Stratton's 137-1. The reply from Swindon Litten Tree was not up to scratch as they were all out for 73, Liam New taking 3-7.

Other big hitters were on display as Wanborough's Dave Cox made 63 and Sean Tregunna 40 in their 147-4. The biggest score though came from Alish, who made an unbeaten 66 for Motorola, but his partners could not support him as they finished on 118-4.

In Division Four, Nationwide 3, without a win, fell to Lucent for the second time. Batting first they were all out for 94, Umesh Arora hitting a creditable 30 as Martin took 6-20. Lucent had Allen to thank, he made 45 as they cruised to 98-6.

RWE Swindon had a convincing win over L&K Skips, the Skips making 128-7, Blake with 47 and Pearson 41. Abbott took three wickets for RWE.

A fine partnership between Putney 41 not out and Nicholson 38 not out saw RWE to 129-3.
