No replacement found for post office

POST Office Ltd has failed to find a replacement venue for a post office in Dilton Marsh, with the village branch due to close tomorrow.

Residents will now have to travel to the Ham Post Office or Edward Street Post Office in Westbury as an alternative.

Royal Mail's external relations executive Jaquie Stenson said: "Following the resignation of the current sub postmaster and despite our best efforts to maintain a Post Office service in the area, Dilton Post Office branch will temporarily close on March 28.

"I would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience. We are working hard to get a service up and running again as soon as possible and we are currently in talks with an interested party."

As reported in the Wiltshire Times last week the sub post mistress at the Ham Post Office Lesley Jordan is looking to take over the service in Dilton.

She previously said: "Our application is currently being processed by the Post Office and we are confident our application will be successful but we can't speculate on an open date.

"We are doing our up most to get the service in Dilton as soon as possible but we are having to pay £20, 000 of our own money to start the business and pay for equipment."
