Fatal crash near Mere

A MAN has died and a nine-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after a road collision on the A303 near Mere yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 4.20pm yesterday and saw a car collide with an ammunition lorry contracted to the Ministry of Defence.

Emergency crews were called immediately and the road was closed for more than six hours as fire crews from Mere, Tisbury, Wincanton, Salisbury, and Warminster, and an army bomb disposal team, worked to extricate the two victims.

The man, whose identity is still unknown, died at the scene of the accident, while the young boy, whose identity is also unknown, was airlifted to hospital. His condition is said to be poor.
