Gullick: Play-off win would be just the tonic

LUKE Gullick is hoping to end an injury-hit first season at Hardenhuish Park on a high by firing Chippenham Town to play-off glory.

The former Supermarine striker was on the scoresheet in the 4-1 rout of Gloucester City lon Monday, and has now set his sights set on sinking rivals Mangotsfield United.

The Bluebirds travel to Cossham Street tomorrow desperate for a win to bridge the seven-point gap between themselves and league leaders Halesowen Town.

Gullick knows securing the one automatic promotion spot will be tough with just five games left, but he insists Chippenham will be there to take full advantage should any of their rivals slip up.

He said: "We are just going to do our best in these last five games and hopefully the other teams can take some points off each other.

"I feel we are starting to play well again at just the right time so hopefully we can win all our remaining games.

"Chippenham have not had the best of luck in the play-offs, but if we do finish there again we will be ready.

"I could see in training that all the boys are up for it. Our performances are getting better, and we want to grab one of the two promotion spots."

Gullick has endured a frustrating first season with Chippenham, having spent much of it on the sidelines with a series of injuries.

He had just established himself in the side when a fractured thumb caused him to miss several weeks, and now Gullick is desperate to make up for lost time.

He said: "I feel as fit as I did during pre-season. It's nice not to have any more injury worries.

"I have been playing up front which is great and hopefully I can bag a few more goals during the run-in.

"But if Adie asks me to play out wide again I will happily do that too.

"As long as I'm on the pitch, I don't really care what position I play."

As Chippenham look to cement their play-off berth with victory tomorrow, Cirencester Town boss Adie Viveash is hoping to dig out the first tunnel on the way to his very own great escape.

The Centurions are surely in the last chance saloon, with a home fixture against fellow strugglers Hitchin Town, and only three points will help lift the gloom over the Corinium Stadium.
