Westside make House call as Saye signs
Premier Division Purton Reserves and Westside clash at the Red House this weekend with both sides looking to put disappointing results behind them, writes RAY BURROUGHS.
Purton boss Dennis Carter admitted: "Our last three games have been disappointing considering we have beaten the top sides in the section.
"Saying that we have had to chop and change a bit due to calls from the first team, injuries and suspensions.
"It won't be our strongest 11 again this weekend, but the lads are up for the game and playing at the Red House, we get plenty of encouragement from the home fans."
Westside hope to parade new signing from Highworth, Matt Saye, in their line-up.
Manager Mark Simpkins said: "Matt said he wasn't enjoying it at the Hellenic Premier club, he started his career at Westside as a youngster and has decided to sign for us.
"We have also secured the services of Alan Russell, from Aldbourne, and together with a few regulars who are available again we should be able to field a reasonable side.
"The Red House has not been one of our lucky grounds in the past, but with former Purton player Gavin Allen in our line-up perhaps he can point the way towards securing us a victory."
Premier Division leaders Wroughton entertain AFC Trowbridge Youth at the Weir Field with Wroughton boss Mark Love welcoming back keeper Curtis Sharkey and John Dart to the squad.
"Striker Lee Curtis is out with an injury but apart from that we should be at full strength," said Love.
"There are just seven games to go and we have got to work hard and grind out results. Trowbridge are a fit and well-organised side, we beat them 1-0 away and they are no pushovers, we have to put in the effort."
There are no easy games for Aldbourne, defeated by third in the table Calne last weekend, they visit Westbury United who are in second spot and will be flat out for the points to keep the pressure on the leaders.
Marlborough Town, who have turned in some good results of late, visit neighbours Devizes Town while New College are without a game due to county commitments.
Stratton Juniors and AFC Stratton Nalgo continue their battle for the runners-up slot in Division One. The Juniors visit local rivals Lower Stratton while Stratton Nalgo entertain Westlecot United.
There is just one game in Division Two, Swindon APS at home to Swindon Irons while league champions KC FC entertain Chalke Valley in Group C of the Subsidiary Cup.
