College denies major job loss claims

WILTSHIRE College has denied claims that 1,000 of its employees will be made redundant through its merger with Salisbury College.

Restructuring is taking place because of the merger and staff have been given letters detailing redundancy packages but a spokesperson for the college said there are no plans for major job losses.

"Following the recent merger of Wiltshire College and Salisbury College, the newly formed Wiltshire College is currently moving through the process of combining the two former organisations," he said.

"This is to ensure that the College continues to work efficiently and effectively and makes best use of publicly funded resources.

"Staff at the College have been involved since the beginning of January in helping the College formulate new structures to respond to these changes.

"During the course of this process, consultation has taken place and continues with staff and unions to ensure that all views are considered."

Salisbury College, which was formerly independent, merged with Wiltshire College in December.
