Worker may face jail for fraud

A NATIONWIDE employee, who swindled his company out of thousands of pounds, could face jail.

Harshad Gohil claimed scores of hours of overtime which he did not work, Swindon Crown Court was told.

Now the 52-year-old could end up behind bars after admitting plundering the cash. Gohil, of The Bramptons, Shaw, pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining a money transfer by deception and one of fraud.

He asked for seven other matters to be taken into consideration when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court.

Gohil received £1,645.19 after falsely claiming he did 37.5 hours of overtime for Nationwide between Tuesday, August 1 and Wednesday, August 9, 2006.

He then claimed for 69.5 hours overtime he did not do between Tuesday, December 26, 2006 and Friday, January 5 last year and was paid £3,049.08.

The fraud charge relates to him saying he did 79.5 hours of overtime between Thursday, April 26 and Thursday, May 10.

Rob Ross, defending, asked the court to put off passing sentence on his client so the probation service could compile a pre-sentence report on him.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the matter to Friday, June 6 and released Gohil on unconditional bail.
