| McEntegart: Leaving Hardenhuish Park again |
Matthew McEntegart has left Chippenham Town and signed for Blue Square South side Welling United, surprising Bluebirds boss Adie Mings.
The centre back, who rejoined the Hardenhuish Park outfit after a two year absence in January, has moved to Welling on a one year deal.
But Mings was surprised to learn his defender was moving on again.
He said: "He was all set to sign here, he has his contract ready and everything. He was happy here and liked what we were doing at Chippenham.
"With the tradition we have got and what we have done recently, he though he had more of a chance of being successful here.
"But he had been speaking to them over the last couple of weeks and said yesterday they had come back to him with a fantastic offer."
But, after being financially outmuscled by Welling, Mings refused to be too downbeat.
He said: "It is difficult but we can't keep harping on about it. There are just clubs who can pay more than we can."
Welling manager Andy Ford has been trailing McEntegart to shore up a defence which conceded 64 goals last year.
Welling finished 16th in the Blue Square South last season and the defender's departure will only hasten Bluebirds manager Adie Mings' desire to capture versatile Cortez Belle to plug the gap.
The former Halifax man impressed in last night's 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff.
