A KIND-hearted man who would do anything for anyone has lost his long battle with illness.

Geoffrey Goodman died two weeks ago after undergoing a double lung transplant in June.

Geoff, as he was known to his friends, suffered from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a lung condition that closes up the airways, but that did not stop him from supporting others in the community and working tirelessly for the Women’s Refuge.

The 47-year-old had a double lung transplant on June 12 at the Royal Brompton Harefield Hospital.

But he did not react well to the treatment and spent six weeks in hospital following the operation, while his kidneys recovered, before he was eventually allowed to return home.

He was rushed to Great Western Hospital earlier this month after his blood pressure dropped and died in the early hours of October 11 from pneumonia, with his partner Keith Lock and sisters Karen and Julie by his side.

“He was such a caring person,” Keith said. “He’d go shopping for the neighbours on his scooter and help people out around the Christmas period.

“He is one of the nicest men you could meet and would always look after others.

“He was a real friendly and loving person, he never had a bad word to say about anyone.”

Keith and Geoff married last November.

Keith is expecting more than 400 people to be at Geoff’s funeral at 3pm on November 1.

Geoff was born in Swindon and lived in Penhill for 43 years.

He loved animals and arrangements are being made for him to arrive at Kingsdown Crematorium on a horse-drawn carriage .

“Geoff was so well known in the community and from the responses I am getting I am expecting to have between 400 and 500 people turning up to the service,” said 49-year-old Keith.

“He would always help out other people and that is how I want him to be remembered.”

The funeral will be followed by a wake at the Civil Service and Nalgo Lawn Tennis Club, in Penhill.

Hi family have requested no flowers but donations to the Royal Brompton Harefield Hospital Trust.
