Holt! The Musical set to hit the stage

A touch of West End glitz is coming to a Wiltshire village this weekend as it gears up to host its first-ever musical.
Holt! The Musical is being produced by the Holt Dramatic Society, and stars children and adults from the village who will be providing the music and drama.
The show tells the tale of Tom, a widowed father of two who leaves his busy life in London behind for a fresh start teaching at Holt Primary School, but soon discovers country life is not always so peaceful.
The cast has been rehearsing for six months, learning their lines, as well as all the song and dance routines. A live band of local musicians will provide the musical accompaniment.
The show was devised by Amy Jarvis, who made the move from London to Holt herself. She has worked backstage at the Holt Dramatic Society for the past 13 years, and was instrumental in getting the show going.
It will be the society’s first original performance in 46 years. Jackie Drake has been with the society on and off-stage for six years, and choreographed the piece.
She said: “We’ve never done a musical before, and as it’s a home-grown show, it is unique, and very unpredictable. We weren’t quite sure what to expect from it. “It was a bit of a challenge, but the whole society has been really supportive.” T
he performances are on Friday and Saturday at 7pm at Holt village Hall, with an additional 2.30pm matinee on Saturday. Tickets are available from the village shop, or www.holtdrama.org.uk.
