A statue celebrating 300 years of education in Bradford on Avon was dedicated by the Bishop of Ramsbury last Wednesday.

The Rt Rev Edward Condry was guest of honour at St Laurence School and held a ceremony for the statue created by Bristol artist Carol Peace.

When the statue was first unveiled in March, by the Bishop of Salisbury the Rt Rev Nicholas Holtam, it featured a young girl reading. The memorial is now fully complete, with a boy also joining her on the plinth.

Bishop Condry’s visit was part of St Laurence’s annual foundation day, which saw Year 7 students go to Bradford on Avon’s Holy Trinity Church for a service and then walk back to school for a flag-raising ceremony, a tradition that has been carried out since St Laurence opened 32 years ago.

Bradford on Avon’s old saxon church first started educating the town’s boys in 1712.
