Brightly-lit floats will fill Warminster High Street tomorrow (Saturday) for this year’s carnival, with 75 entries from groups across Wiltshire and the west.

Warminster Lions will lead the parade, followed by Devizes Majorwrecks majorette group, with music from the Dolphin Marching Band of Poole.

The floats will follow the traditional route, setting off from Boreham Road at 6.30pm, through East Street, Market Place and Silver Street to end in Church Street by the Minster Church.

There will also be a fundraising tombola at St Lawrence Chapel, and rides and entertainments at Jennings Fair.

Committee chairman Sandra Major said: “We are very pleased with the number of entries this year, it is better than it has been for some time.

“Our carnival is doing quite well considering how difficult it is to raise funds for these events at the moment, and this year’s should be as fun as ever.

“We are also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the carnival committee this year, but as always we could do with more volunteers, particularly marshals and fundraisers on the day.”

All profits from this year’s carnival will go to local charities.
