Sweet treats will be made before the eyes of cake-lovers next month, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Event organiser Jess Hancock, 29, has become a keen fundraiser for the charity after her grandmother was diagnosed with the disease last year.

She said: “My grandmother had treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy which was intense, painful and uncomfortable – but I didn’t hear her complain once.

“I made a pledge I would fundraise as much as I can for Cancer Research UK. Every penny really does make a difference.”

In August, Mrs Hancock started Malmesbury Cake Society.

She said: “I spent many weekends of my childhood baking with my mum and gran, so it seemed like the perfect place to start.

“It takes place on the first Monday of every month and people bring cakes on a theme.

“The one on November 5 is flapjacks, and we have a cake buffet.

“There is an entry fee and all of the money goes to Cancer Research. I’m trying to do something for gran and which raises money.”

There will be a fundraising night at the Kings Arms Hotel, Malmesbury High Street, on December 3.

Lee Bamforth, head pastry chef of Whatley Manor, will demonstrate how to make choux pastry and a croquembouche. This will be followed by an auction, raffle and live music.

Mrs Hancock said: “There will be profiterole balls built into a pyramid and covered in sponge sugar – it will be incredible.

“The live auction will be held by Hilditch Auctioneers with amazing prizes such as a class at Whatley Manor, a stay at the Old Bell and meat vouchers.

“All the businesses have been very supportive and generous.

“It will be absolutely fantastic, and for a brilliant cause.”

Entry is £4.50. The event starts at 7.30pm.
