SINGER Rhiannon Lambert is aiming for chart success, with the online release of her first solo single.

The 23-year-old from Melksham has spent six years in London as a soprano singer and, after working with a classical girl group, is about to release her first solo offering.

The former pupil of George Ward School, Melksham, will release her version of the Rolling Stone’s Wild Horses on iTunes on Tuesday, with a CD version to follow on November 20.

Rhiannon was named Classic FM’s Best New Talent when she was 17, and has performed around the world as part of Passionata, a classical crossover all-girl four piece group.

She said: “I’m really excited to finally be releasing my own music. It’s completely different to working with the girls, which I want to keep doing for as long as possible.”

The single will be the first from an album of classical cover versions. Rhiannon said: “I’ve always enjoyed singing a wide range of different styles, and I wanted to release an album that bought me up to where I am now.

“I got into the Rolling Stones through my parents, and really admire what they have done.”

The single will be released in the classical charts, but Rhiannon hopes her forthcoming album will have a wider market, covering musical theatre, classical and modern music.

Rhiannon has juggled her growing music career with a university degree, and is currently studying nutrition and health at London’s University of Roehampton, but still finds time to visit friends back home. “I’ll be going out in Soho on Friday night to hopefully celebrate, but it will be nice to be back in Melksham next week,” she said.

She is now looking ahead to more work with Passionata, as well as more solo shows, with a Christmas concert lined up in Cheltenham next month.
