A 46-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident on the B3099 near Westbury on Sunday night.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at 8.27pm to the Marsh Road which runs through Dilton Marsh, where a silver three-door MG was found on its roof.

Fire and ambulance teams worked to free the man from the car, but he was pronounced dead on the scene. The man has not yet been named, but is believed to be from Midsomer Norton. No-one else was injured in the collision.

The road was closed overnight while Wiltshire council cleared debris, and was reopened in the early hours of Monday morning.

A telegraph pole was also damaged in the crash. BT have been informed and will be replacing the pole today, although no customers have been left without service.

A police investigation has been launched into the causes of the incident.
