A conference to raise awareness and share information about autism in Wiltshire will take place next week.

The Understand Autism conference takes place on November 21 at the Corn Exchange in Devizes. It will see the launch of the Wiltshire Autism Awareness campaign, which aims to bring together carers, families and professionals coping with the condition.

More than 4000 people in Wiltshire have an autistic spectrum condition, and many will need lifelong support to help them to live independently.

The networking event will provide advice and information from a variety of stalls and key speakers.

During the morning the National Autistic Society will also be holding a workshop from 9.30am to 11.30am which will listen to the direct experiences, ideas and views of people with autism to help make improvements in Wiltshire. People who have an autism spectrum condition are encouraged to book to reserve their place.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for adult care John Thomson said: “I’m delighted we are able to launch an awareness campaign of such an important issue which affects a lot of people, directly or indirectly, in our county.

“The conference will be a great opportunity for organisations to meet and share ideas”

The conference runs until 3.30pm. To book a place at the conference and one of its sessions people visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk/autismbookingform
