Plans for Trowbridge’s campus are being drawn up following input for local people on what they would like to see included.

The project’s Shadow Community Operations Board held an autumn survey, to gauge support for the campus and discover what facilities residents would like to see.

Trowbridge Area Board was told last Thursday that, of the 1,297 people surveyed, 83 per cent gave their support to the project.

From the consultation, the shadow board discovered that the top five services the public wanted the Trowbridge campus to provide were a meeting space for groups, a cafe, library services, computers with internet access and health services.

Colin Kay, the shadow board’s chairman, said: “We found that younger people were much more prepared to take part in the questionnaire and that reflects in our findings.”

The survey suggested that the leisure services the public would like to see the campus provide included a large sports hall, swimming facilities, a dance studio and a climbing wall.

Members of the public were also keen to see an ice rink and bowling alley form part of the plans, but Mr Kay said those facilities are not covered in the board’s remit.

He added: “The plans need to convince the area board and the council that the campus will meet the needs of the community and reflect what the public wants.”

In March, the board will be holding another public consultation, this time to outline more specific plans for the campus project.

Trowbridge Area Board chairman and Wiltshire Council member Graham Payne said: “We would like to thank Colin and his team for all their hard work with the consultation.”
