A by-election will be held on November 29 to find a replacement for Coun Chris Dobbie in the Lickhill ward.
Mr Dobbie was elected as a councillor in March 2009 but recently handed in his notice after he and his partner decided to move away from the town.
The candidates are Liberal Democrat Robert McNaughton and Conservative David Conway.
Mr McNaughton, who moved to Calne three years ago, is a freelance creative artist specialising in multimedia.
If elected he says his main interest would be to get people involved in the regeneration of the town centre.
He is a member of the Calne Environmental Group.
He became involved in local politics after he grew annoyed at litter in Sainsbury’s lower car park and began helping with litter picks.
David Conway is a stay-at-home father, a governor at Holy Trinity Primary School, and a coach at Calne Rugby Club.
Mr Conway, who lives in Quemerford, has been canvassing on the issue of dog mess on the Lansdowne Park Estate and the need to improve parking around schools in the area.
