Young Calne performers triumphant

Budding thespians from Calne Speech and Drama School delivered several winning performances at the recent Royal Wootton Bassett Arts Festival.
During the festival the senior section of the school won the silver salver for group acting for the second year in a row. They performed a scene from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights’ Dream and were praised for their appreciation of the structure of the verse and their grasp of the humour in the scene.
William Haywood and William MacKenzie also won the cup for duologue acting in their age group, and Alice Hall and Alyssa Lenton-Jinks were second in their solo acting classes.
Young actor William Haywood also achieved an outstanding mark of 91 for his portrayal of Heathcliff from Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, winning him the cup for the solo act acting, age 14 to 16-years.
During the Highlights Concert, on the evening of November 11, he was awarded The Doreen Room Memorial Rose Bowl for the most outstanding performance in Acting, and The Mayor’s Shield for the best performance in the concert.
