After cancelling Calne’s Winter Festival, the town council plans a smaller event this Saturday.

There will be a December market in Phelps Parade and the New Market Place from 2pm-6pm.

Stalls will be selling Christmas gifts, including jewellery, crafts, stocking fillers, preserves and plants. Hot food will also be on sale.

The lantern parade will still take place, led by Mayor Roy Golding, town crier Mark Wylie and Father Christmas.

It will start at Bremhill View Social Club at 5pm, continuing down Lickhill Road, onto North Street and then turning left onto Oxford Road. The parade will then turn left onto The Pippin, continuing past Sainsbury’s and finishing by the riverside.

There will be also be carols and refreshments at the end of the parade, thanks to Calne Free Church.
