A GP practice manager, who has worked across Bradford on Avon and Melksham for 24 years, is celebrating her retirement by planning a trip to the Glastonbury music festival.

Alda Sinclair, 64, of Bath Road in Atworth, has created a list of things to do during her retirement and plans to embrace the festival with her sister and niece.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to go and experience the music and atmosphere, but never had the time.

“I just hope the weather is better next year.”

Mrs Sinclair started as a receptionist at St Margaret’s Surgery, in Bradford on Avon, which was originally housed a temporary building in the station’s car park, before it moved to Bridge Street.

Mrs Sinclair said: “I have seen huge changes during my time. The early days were spent with no computers and now, more than 20 years later, everything is done electronically.”

She soon moved up the ranks, to become the practice manager at All Saints Medical Practice, and spread her time between the two surgeries in Bradford on Avon and Melksham.

In 2004, the two small practices were merged, to create Bradford on Avon Health and Melksham Health Partnership.

At that time, Mrs Sinclair became an operational partner for the centres.

She said: “I have had contact with a lot of patients since I started and many were sorry to see me go.

“It has been a great privilege to meet and share such a large part of my working life with the patients and staff in the practices.”

The retired practice manager previously lived in Australia with her husband, James Sinclair, 66, who worked for the Ministry of Defence.

Now they are both retired, Mrs Sinclair is looking forward to spending more time with their three children and five granddaughters.

Also on Mrs Sinclair’s list of things to do is a trip to her native Scotland, to walk the West Highland Way and visit the Isle of Skye.

She said: “It is lovely to have a moment to yourself, because it was such a busy job, and it will be nice to do the things that there has not been time for.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time, but I feel the time is right for me to retire.”
