Two new non-executive directors have joined the Great Western Hospital’s Trust Board and they bring with them a wealth of expertise and experience.

Professor Dame Janet Husband, a renowned consultant radiologist, has worked for prestigious organisations including the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Cancer Research, in a career spanning over 40 years.

Since retiring from full time clinical practice in 2007, Dame Janet has held a number of high profile positions – she is currently chairwoman of the National Cancer Research Institute, Emeritus Professor of Radiology at the Institute of Cancer Research and founder and trustee of the International Cancer Imaging Society.

Her extensive experience in healthcare includes three years as medical director at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she worked as a consultant radiologist from 1980 until 2007.

Dame Janet, who has three sons and lives in Gloucestershire, has given lectures around the world, published six books and won numerous awards for her ground-breaking work.

In 2002 she was awarded an OBE and received her DBE in 2007.

The second new appointment is Philippa Green, who has had a successful career in the private sector.

She has worked at BT as a highly accomplished senior executive for the past 11 years, currently in the role of resource supply director.

Praised as an inspirational leader, Philippa has a proven track record of delivering sustainable results.

Philippa, who lived in Wiltshire for 17 years, before moving to Berkshire, is an executive coach and mentor and is keen to use her business experience to help the Trust further improve patient services.

Bruce Laurie, chairman of Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said he was delighted with the two appointments and is looking forward to working with them in the future.

“I am delighted to welcome these two exceptional candidates to the Board,” he said.

“To have such a breadth of expertise, experience and knowledge at such a senior level is a real privilege.

“I’m sure their input will prove invaluable.

“The two non-executive directors will work with the Board to challenge and support the development of our strategy and help us meet future challenges in a changing NHS.”

Both non-executive directors officially started on January 1.
