SWINDON TOWN: Hollands deal close

Danny Hollands could well remain a Swindon Town player
AN EXTENSION to Danny Hollands' loan spell with Swindon Town has been agreed in principle, the Advertiser understands.
Hollands initial stint with the Robins expired on Saturday but the Charlton man could well remain in Wiltshire as Town boss Paolo Di Canio thrashes out the terms of a longer stay at the County Ground.
After extending Chris Martin's time with Swindon by a further 28 days, Di Canio told www.swindontownfc.co.uk that he is close to completing a deal for Hollands.
“We don’t want to say anything before the paperwork is done, but we are close to agreeing something for Danny,” he said.
“He has done well for us since he has been with the club and we know what he can do.
“He has scored a couple of goals and made a big impact, so we want to see what we can do – and perhaps arrange a deal for longer than a month, but we will see what’s going on.”

Or even if they're adamant there's no more money, at least it gives us some breathing room to try to clear some of the players we don't want off the wage bill i.e. Cox, Benson etc

I reckon we are all walking a tightrope over the Grand Canyon at the moment, with PDC at the front.
I predict an automatic promotion position as the most likely outcome, or mediocre mid-table if not, with no middle ground.
I think PDC really is on the brink of a fantastic double promotion, if he keeps his balance and does not fall off the tight rope! It's a long way down from up here!!

Although I agree with what you are saying LR I do think that any promotion will cost us substantially more than this years budget and the extra TV money combined. lets just hope things do pan out better and extra investors can be found and of course extra sponsorship as well.

I'm obviously not privy to the existing players contracts but if we can get Martin, Hollands and Bostock on permanent deals I believe we have the vast majority of a side that compete in the Championship. I've thought our squad is amazing without them and have believed we'd win the league from the off.
Really think something special is happening here and that it won't take to much more to have a really good crack at the Championship...

On the face of it you would think perhaps not a lot would change, but I suspect without trying to be mella dramatic there are quite a few things that do, and again we must be aware and not nieve to such things. I'm only wishing for success but also prepared to express some caution to avoid a gun-ho approach such has been employed previously when we obviously got in over our heads. I don't want that again, and I'm sure nobody else does either. Can't wait to see Hollands as ours, and the next home game.

As I've said before - non football cost shouldn't rise much so that would leave expenditure at around £10.5m
.
I fully expect us to earn over that in the Championship - especially if TV provides about £5m!

I thought I had seen an article somewhere that mentioned the TV money in the Championship was likely to be around £9M. May be wrong.
You can see why JW may have allowed Paolo to spend early in the season. I don't believe it has been badly spent either as it is too early, and unfair, to write-off the likes of Navarro, Troy and Miller.

The trouble is, how do you get your additional 'investment' out next year? Once a club gets into the Championship, its wages just rise in line with the increased revenue. Everything just leverages up as clubs find it all too easy to spend the extra revenue.
Most clubs in the Championship are in dire financial straits.
So the additional 'investment' remains locked in.
If Mr Black and co. really want out as soon as possible, we wouldn't like it if the first thing we did when we got into the Championship is cash in on a top player.
Football is a mad business.

First choice midfielders for me are
1) Ferry with Bostock as back up.
2) Hollands with Miller as back up then next in line Macca then Navarro.
Ferry is key to it all, and should be first name on the team sheet. Big gamble to lose Bostock and just have Ferry as the sole creative player.
Navarro the spare man for me at the moment. Decent sideways passer and good organiser but haven't seen much else, bar the Brighton game. The others seem to have much more to the game.
Once Jay is back from injury it will be interesting to see where Macca fits in.
Jay is the better left back, Nathan is playing superbly, you'd be mad to split up Ward and Devera, and Ferry and Hollands every time in the middle. A head scratcher for Paolo in a few weeks. Would be very harsh on Nathan if he lost his place now.

I believe, someone correct me if I am wrong, that the reason many Championship sides are in dire straits (Sultans of Swing my favourite) is that the financial fair play has not yet been applied.
The whole point of the cap on wage/transfer spend (65% of our income in our case) is to stop clubs overspending or, as I see it (more importantly, being loaned) money they cannot pay back. At Swindon we exceeded the 65% threshold and Mr Black had to inject money into the club that had been kept aside for now.
Again, please correct me if I am wrong as it is how I interpret it, clubs will be able to spend more than the set percentage of their income but only if that money is, in effect, given to the club. i.e. Man City's owners will be able to inject the same funds as now but there will be no debt owed by the club.
In a similar way, we as fans (or Paolo) can give to the Red Army Fund and it can be used by the club in the same way. i.e. it has no impact on the 65% cap because we cannot be repaid.
Mr Black could regain his gifts by selling the club for more if it reaches the championship or through dividends if Town make a profit. He is a racing man, which could make the next few weeks interesting. Does he own a Desert Orchid that is worth a punt or ...

Granted we may be doing that at a much reduced level in L1 - but if we stick to the FFP rules and wages are at 65% then there is no reason we can not take the extra £6,7,8m or whatever figure it may be and NOT spend it all!
