Trowbridge Town FC is hoping to hit the back of the net tomorrow, during a fundraising event which has a £20,000 goal of replacing its vandalised fence.

The club is hoping to get the backing of town residents for the event, which will take place during their Wiltshire League clash with South-brook FC, which kicks off at 2pm at their Woodmarsh Ground.

Vandals targeted the club last month, cutting the ground’s wire fence in about 40 different places and gluing shut many of the site’s locks, including the one for the car park.

Club chairman Ralph McCaldon said: “We have got this game on Saturday, where we want as many people as possible to turn up and show their support. “We have had an awful lot of messages of support from the town, but the proof will be in the pudding on Saturday, when we see how many turn up.

“We are calling out to residents to come and support us and we hope to have around 300 people at the ground. We could fall flat on our face and only have 90 people, but we really hope not.”

Tomorrow’s activities will start at 1.15pm and feature friendly matches played by the club’s youth teams.

There will also be a raffle, with the top prize being a VIP day out for two, donated by Swindon Town, to see Paolo Di Canio’s League One club play Oldham Athletic at the County Ground on March 30.

The prize includes a tour of the stadium, a three-course meal and a chance to meet some of the Robins’ stars.

On December 29, about 50 volunteers carried out repairs at the Woodmarsh Ground, to make the fence safe for the club’s team’s to play there.

Mr McCaldon said: “I think it would mean an awful lot to the volunteers, who made the repairs, if there was a big crowd at this Saturday’s game. “I’m interested to see what the turnout will be, as I think it is time the people of Trowbridge got behind the club.”

Swindon Town has also offered to hold a fundraising event in Trowbridge for the club, hosted by commentator and former Swindon Town player Phil King, which will include a question and answer session with two of the current squad.

Trowbridge Town is still trying to find a venue for the event, but has been given an added boost as Premier League sides Manchester United, West Ham United and Swansea City have offered the club memorabilia to add to an auction.

There will also be a race night taking place at North Bradley Village Hall on Saturday, March 2, for which League 2 club Bristol Rovers has donated 10 match tickets, to help raise more money.
