Wiltshire police have reported no major problems on roads around the county although they say that motorists should continue to exercise extreme caution while driving in the current snow and ice.

All major roads in the county are open, a police spokesman said this morning, but low temperatures have created hazardous conditions and drivers should still take care.

He added: "It is all very slow out there but we have had no reports of any serious problems so far today."

Estate roads and side streets are still covered in snow and ice, which has led Wiltshire Council to suspend all collections of waste and recycling until conditions improve.

Household waste that should have been collected yesterday will be picked up as soon as it is safe to do so.

Black box recycling collections, due to take place yesterday, will now take place on Friday January 26. The blue plastic and cardboard recycling bins will be emptied as soon as it is safe to do so.

If council workers are unable to collect garden waste in the next two days, householders are asked to take the bins in and put them out on the next due collection date.
