A NORTHFIELDS resident has come forward to say she had a part to play in a supermarket delivery man’s story of rescuing a pensioner from her blazing home.
Jill Jones, 55, also of Northfields, told the Guardian she went into her neighbour’s home and dragged her out after the incident on December 27.
The Guardian reported that Asda delivery Chris Barnwell was nominated for Asda’s Colleague of the Year award, after risking his safety to help the woman, who was trapped by smoke by leading her out of her bungalow.
But Jill said she dragged her neighbour – who she knows as Doreen – out of the house.
“I didn’t think anything of it, I just saw one of my elderly neighbours was in trouble,” she said.
“I went in and grabbed her and her phone and rang the fire service. I saw the guy from Asda before I went in the house.
“Doreen was in a home while they carried out work on her house, but I’ve not seen her.”
