Children at Heytesbury Primary School have been enjoying the works of Gruffalo writer Julia Donaldson as part of a scheme to improve attitudes towards reading.
Literacy co-ordinator at the school James Newbery has been developing the children’s taste for reading through themed weeks and updates to the library over the past year.
The latest theme focused on the works of 2011 Children’s Laureate Donaldson, with pupils taking part in storytelling, footprint hunting and making their own Gruffalo cardboard puzzles and on Wednesday pupils and teachers dressed up as characters from Donaldson’s books.
Pupils re-told another Donaldson story, The Troll, through dance with theatre group Westend Productions.
