Police have identified the driver who died last Tuesday (January 22) just off the A350 at Longbridge Deverill, near Warminster.

Richard Thomas Davies, 78, of Somerton, Somerset, was pronounced dead at the scene after going into cardiac arrest following a suspected heart attack.

Mr Davies is believed to have driven off the carriageway after becoming unwell at the wheel.

An ambulance crew and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle arrived at 6.12pm, after a 999 call reported a gold Volvo estate coming to rest on the embankment by Lord’s Hill.

When they arrived at the scene, a police officer was already giving Mr Davies CPR, but he was unable to be revived. The post-mortem is expected to take place today (January 28).

If there are any witnesses to this incident contact PC Mark Cargill from the Roads Policing Department at Devizes on 101.
