Pupils and teachers at Cherhill Primary School are celebrating after achieving their highest league table results so far.

The results, based on the 2012 national Key Stage 2 tests, placed it among the year’s top performing primary schools.

The school was ranked the second best primary school out of 190 schools in Wiltshire and the best school in the Calne cluster. It also came 24th out of 15,074 schools nationally.

Headteacher Terry Hall said 100 per cent of pupils were awarded level four and above in English and maths.

Mrs Hall said: “Parents knew the SAT results were phenomenal, so now it will be great to show them we are second in the league table.

“We’re really proud, the children and the staff have worked so hard to get them to that level. We’ve taken a school that was a school in difficulty to a school that’s second in Wiltshire.”

Following the school’s success, Chris Shepperd, director of education at the diocese, and education minister David Laws wrote to congratulate staff and pupils.

Mr Laws wrote: “Mastery of English and mathematics is critical to success at secondary school and beyond, so these pupils now have a really good start for the next stage of their education.

“I would like to congratulate your staff, governors and pupils for their hard work and success, and to thank you for your leadership in continuing the drive towards the highest standards of educational achievement.”
