Cabaret legend Rosemary Squires will return to her West Country roots next month, with a special performance at Malmesbury Town Hall.

The singer regularly performed in Hullavington and Kemble in the early part of her career.

She was awarded a British Music Hall Society Lifetime Achievement Award in December.

Her concert, entitled Those Were The Days, takes place on March 1 and will be her first since accepting the award.

The Malmesbury Mayor’s Charity Appeal, aiding Hope for Tomorrow, and the Jo Dolphin Special Care Centre in Malmesbury, South Africa, will benefit from the concert.

Mayor Ray Sanderson said: “We met Rosemary at a function in Salisbury, we started talking about Malmesbury, and she offered me the opportunity to perform.

“I thought it would be nice to have her, so I took her up on her offer.

“I’m looking forward to it – very much so.”

Tickets for the concert cost £10, and are available from the Tourist Information Centre, or www.oxboffice.com
