Pancake  racers across the county will be trying to batter their opponents this mrning.

In Chippenham races for adults and children start at 11am outside the town hall in the High Street. Entry is free but participants must provide pancakes and a frying pan.

Musician Martin Smith will be on hand to entertain the crowd between races.

Mayor Andy Phillips will start the races from the town hall steps and present the prizes afterwards.
Coun Maureen Lloyd and her colleagues from the Autumn Travellers’ Club of Chippenham will be making and selling pancakes in the town hall during the event.

Winners will receive an engraved frying pan and those in second place will get a jar of maple syrup. Everyone receives a lemon, donated by SK Fruits in the town, and there will be special prizes for children.

Racers will still be able to enter this morning.

Scores of onlookers will gather in Devizes Market Place on Tuesday for the town’s annual  races from noon.

But teams are still needed to bolster numbers for the event, which raises money for Age UK.

Age UK Wiltshire is keen to have more to entertain the crowds and boost fundraising.
There will also be races for children at the event.

Teams comprise four people but if there are not enough members people can run more than once on the relay legs.

This is the seventh year of the popular event. Last year’s winners were solicitors Awdry Bailey and Douglas.

Teams can enter this morning.
